CF Montreal parts ways with Hernan Losada

CF Montreal parted ways with head coach Hernan Losada following a disappointing 2023 campaign that saw the Canadian side narrowly miss playoffs.

He departs after just one season in charge, culminating with 41 points and a 12W-17L5D record.

“Following the assessment of the season, it was determined this decision is in the club’s best interest for 2024 and beyond,” read a Montréal statement. “The selection process for CF Montréal’s next head coach for the 2024 season is actively underway.”

Losada joined ahead of the 2023 campaign, replacing Wilfried Nancy after he left the Canadian side for the Columbus Crew. His arrival in Montreal stood as his second opportunity to coach an MLS team, previously leading D.C. United from 2021 to 2022. But it remained a controversial hire, after his exit from the Black-and-Red for a unique tactical approach that inspired several players to speak out against Losada.

He put his D.C. days behind him, starting off strong with the Canadian side before struggling in the last stretch of the season when winning just one of their last nine games.

Now, Montreal will begin the search for a permanent replacement. The team enters the offseason with no interim, as assistant coach Sebastián Setti has also been let go.

Like Charlotte FC, who also fired their head coach, the team has three months before the 2024 MLS season kicks off.
