Missy Elliott shares her thoughts and emotions as she gets ready to create a historic moment by becoming the first female rapper to be honored with induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

During an interview aired on “Good Morning America” this Thursday, the four Grammy Awards recipient engaged in a conversation with Robin Roberts. In this discussion, she looked back on her life’s path and contemplated the significant milestone in her career journey. The renowned hip-hop artist also delved into the origin of her stage name, revealing that it was given to her by Magoo of Timbaland & Magoo.

“He named me that,” she shared. “He said, ‘It was a crime to have as many talents as I had.’”

As she reflected on her extensive decades-long career in the industry, the 52-year-old expressed that it’s difficult to put into words just how deeply honored she is to have been chosen as an inductee into the music industry’s most esteemed hall. She also shared that as an artist from the “hip-hop world,” achieving such a goal had once seemed incredibly distant.

Additionally, Elliott opened up about her personal battle with anxiety, recounting a particular incident when she joined Katy Perry onstage during the 2015 Super Bowl. Elliott reveals that she had ended up in the emergency room just a few hours before that performance.

“I start freakin’ out,” Elliott added. “Because you realize…’Hey, it’s a lotta people that suffer from anxiety.’” However, Elliott noted that she finds comfort in the fact that we are currently in an era where society is more receptive to having open discussions about this subject.

Nevertheless, Elliott has shifted her attention towards self-care while simultaneously guiding and empowering the upcoming genrration of creative individuals who have embraced her influence, particularly through platforms like TikTok.
